Cinnamon Churros with Salted Caramel

July 27, 2015

We had an inter floor Masterchef competition at work this week. My friend and colleague Nina and I represented level one. With both of us being keen foodies we had confidence going into this. For two days prior we scoured the internet for inspiration and ran through hypothetical game plans. For most this was just some light hearted work competition designed to engage the floors, for the both of us we knew our reputations amongst level one were depending on our performance.

Sichuan Dan Dan Noodles

July 26, 2015

I saw a recipe for these noodles. I became fixated on these noodles. I studied the ingredients list, almost committing it to memory. I spent three days curating the materials required to bring these into fruition. I made the chilli oil in advance for optimum infusion. I even did a test run to make sure I got the method down perfect. I wanted noodles.

Not Your Regular Roast Beef

July 22, 2015

I am pretty much only writing this post so that my friend Alix could read it and be taught how to make this super easy slow roasted beef. She specifically requested this yesterday whilst at the supermarket so here I am following through with my promise.

Sweet Sweet Lemon Cake

July 19, 2015

I once read a book called The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake. It was about a girl who one day developed the ability to taste the feelings people had felt whilst making food.

Meringues with Chocolate and Pistachio

July 18, 2015

I spent yet another raging Friday night hanging out with my family as well as making meringues. I think my life is comparable in its extremeness to that of Bear Grylls or a world champion BASE jumper. Ooh I did some washing too. Two loads of washing in fact. I really should have posted about it on Facebook but then again sometimes it's best not to boast.

Spicy Roasted Winter Vegetable and Lentil Salad

July 11, 2015

My raging Saturday consisted of buying vegetables, visiting my Nana, cooking vegetables, going to see an animated Pixar movie with my parents where I then wept when the imaginary friend got forgotten and then coming home and giving myself a wax. It was so raging. I could have joined the party upstairs but instead I put my ear plugs in and went to bed so that I would be well rested for my early morning spin class. Judging by the number of people who liked my look how raging my life is..not  post on Facebook it would suggest I am not alone.

Little Lemon Meringue Pies

July 8, 2015

I had a hankering. A hankering for crisp pastry and rich, thick lemon curd. Lemon meringue pies up until recently had never really floated my boat. Sure they were nice but often it was just a sugar fest with some half assed lemon curd trying to convince you it was a classic worth remembering.

Almond Croissants

July 6, 2015

I am a huge fan of almond croissants. My first ever experience of one was in Dunedin in my third year of Uni. I discovered this café that sold freshly baked almond croissants. I had been told they were good but they exceeded my expectations. They came from this French bakery up on the hill called the Friday Bakery. Coincidentally they only ever open on Fridays, funny that. These croissants bring back memories of treating my friends when they needed a pick me up. They were that indulgent treat that for $5 could turn a cold Dunedin Friday into something special. I miss the Friday bakery. I miss the people I used to go with and the people I used to surprise with treats from there.

The Ultimate Cauliflower Cheese

June 28, 2015

My dinner consisted of two members of the brassica family doused in cheese. It was smoked Havarti cauliflower cheese and broccoli and blue cheese soup.

The highlight of my day was scoring some eco store vanilla and coconut body wash from the showers at the gym.

I am listening to Justin Bieber, in my room, by myself.

Boysenberry Ripple Chia Ice Pops

June 20, 2015

One of the perks of working for a company that makes ice cream is that from time to time you get treated. I usually go for the delicious Kapiti ice creams sticks and for just a few minutes zone out into my own little bubble of joy as my mouth wraps around the sweet sweet goodness. This is the second time in the month of June I have had to forgo this delicious novelty in the name of Junk Free June.

Recipe number 40 is rather special. A week ago today Nana left this earth. To celebrate her life we all gathered in Matamata and of course there was afternoon tea. The Aunties and I all made something of hers. I was on cheesecakes. Welsh cheesecakes
Dylan and I made this @katherine_sabbath stunner yesterday to celebrate Chris’ birthday. Needless to say it went down an absolute treat 🍳🌽🍡
Apologies for the crap photos but I’d like to share the recipe for this family favourite. I’ve written about Dad’s favourite veggie casserole over on TheSupperClubKitchen.com under recipes worth sharing. It’s 90s nostalgia at
We’ve always seen making our own croissants as a pretty daunting task. I feel like there is a lot of mystique around their making that only trained experts can get their heads around. Since we had little else to do we (Dylan) decided to give ma

@bonappetitmag’s best ever bread recipe. It only took us three days but we’re here. Having this tonight with Ima’s chicken soup. Just call me Henny Penny.
